Coates is a simple yet indispensable tool for good artists. It can be used alone to create a striking atmospheric impression, or with paint or pastels where color is needed.
The Coates have been making charcoal the traditional way since 1819. The intense black color of natural salix charcoal makes it the perfect painting tool and has been used by artists for centuries.
Back in the 1960s, Percy Coate began experimenting with willow trees he had grown to make charcoal for painting. Though it took a few years to perfect the technique, by the 1970s he was finally ready to share his new Coates willow charcoal with the world.
Charcoal is of excellent quality and ideal for fine, detailed drawings while also producing bold markings.
This pack contains 30 half rods with a diameter of 3-12mm. The charcoal is carefully packaged to retain its shape during transport.
